I was thinking, how I’m always amused to stumble on older pieces that we’ve featured here on Corporette® … sometimes they still look good, or I remember liking them. Other times, the styling or the featured piece of clothing is just… fug.

Anyway, I started thinking… it might be fun to share some previously featured pictures with you guys, and discuss — would you wear these items today? If so, how would you style them in 2025? If you’ve replaced items like this in your closet, what are you wearing instead of them?

April 14 Workwear Picks, 2009-2023

Here are some of the things we’ve featured on April 14 over the years…

April 14, 2023: Banjanan Constance Dress

This was, admittedly, one of my picks for Weekend Open Thread… it’s funny how just a few years have passed and it looks a bit dated to my eyes. What do you think, readers? Maybe I’m just not imagining it correctly…

April 14, 2021: Alloy Ombre Leggings

There were so many of us working from home in 2021 that some of our weekday picks included athleisure items like these fun leggings from Beyond Yoga — and I do still like the leggings, although I’m probably wearing flared yoga pant styles more these days.

You can still find Beyond Yoga at Nordstrom.

April 14, 2016: J.Crew Peplum, Colorblocked Top

Hoo – this J.Crew top encapsulates so many trends from the mid-2010s. Colorblocking? Check. Peplum? Check. Unclear whether for work or play? Check.

Interestingly, I think peplum might be swinging back — I nearly featured it in the section on “new options to wear on top of work tops” post that we did last week. The Fold has a number of options, to be sure.

April 14, 2015: J.Crew Regent Blazer

Our pick for this day in 2015 was J.Crew’s Regent blazer — which is still available in basic colors! Over the years this has come in a huge variety of fabrics and colors.

I still l like the look of the blazer — how are you wearing the Regent blazer today?

April 14, 2011: Escada Giraffe Print Dress

As far as sheath dresses go, I like this one — the cap sleeves, the hem length, the wide boatneck are details that I’ve always thought were flattering for sheath dresses. I don’t think we’ve seen super large giraffe prints like this in a while, but then again, this was a Splurge Monday pick, so the idea was that it was something different and cool.

The Escada dress was $995 at Bloomingdale’s back then.

April 14, 2010: Geometric Wrap Dress

Huh. This dress totally would have been my jam back in 2010, but now… huh. It’s kind of funny (to me, at least) that I recommend wearing it with red heels, because for some reason today I can’t imagine anything more hideous, especially if I add a thick platform like all the heels had back then.

I can’t quite put my finger on what I don’t like about the dress, beyond the fact that it looks like a maternity dress with the waistband.

April 14, 2009: The DVF Julian Wrap

In 2009, we featured this lovely wrap dress, which is about as classic as they come: the Diane von Furstenberg Julian dress, which is still sold today (and briefly even came in plus sizes). We noted it was $325 full price but on sale for $243; nowadays the full price is closer to $600.

The wrap dress isn’t out — I think if you saw a woman wearing this today you’d still think she looked polished and cool — but you certainly see a lot less of them today, or the ones you do see have a bit of a longer or shorter hemline. In fact, all of the Julian dresses on the DvF website today are minis.

(You can, of COURSE, find a bunch of them on Poshmark, Vestiaire Collective, and other resale sites as well.)
