Somebody who enjoys killing cats is prepared to break into an animal refuge and steal cats only to kill them there and then, or to remove them from the premises and do it elsewhere.
Fortunately, cat-killer D.C. was caught and is in the process of being tried.

We have to go back to the early hours of one morning, last summer, in the town of Verger (Valencia) for the first incident when a cat burglar, (never better said) broke into the animal refuge building via a skylight. He headed for the cat section, found a cage and removed a cat known as Indi and took it away with him, only for it to turn up dead at a later date.
The very next day he repeated the break-in, taking away a cat called Benji. The bodies of both cats were said to be in a wooded area, which turned out to be next to his home, according to the lawyer for the Sociedad para el Cuidado de los Animales que lo Necesitan (Scan).
He waited a further 20 days before he entered the building for the third time and headed straight for where the cats were kept in cages. This time he couldn’t wait to kill a defenceless animal because he took a cat, named Río and slammed it against the floor and then stamped on the stunned animal. He did this with a second cat already in his arms. The second cat didn’t last long because he killed her in an orange grove next to the animal refugee.
Little did the twisted culprit know but that during those 20 days the animal refuge had installed security cameras… and thanks to discriminating images of him entering and killing Río, he was arrested and taken to the police station where he confessed to the killings and to their whereabouts. However, some of the bodies were not located by the police
The Chairman of Scan, Barry Caulfield, said that there was no way to understand how a person could have these urges to slaughter defenceless animals.
Eighteen months later, the culprit’s judicial process began its long journey to reach a conclusion where he faces three counts of animal cruelty resulting in deaths, as well as burglary and theft. Each cat death will earn him 18 months imprisonment with the exception of Río who he killed with malice on the spot, and in whose case the prosecutor’s recommended is 24 months. Then there are three years for burglary. There’s also 1,000 euros in damages and ten times that amount as ‘moral damage’ against the volunteers at the animal home.
The examining judge put a bail for 20,000 euros for him to be released pending trial.
But the snag is that the private accusation and the public prosecutor disagree on the animal-cruelty charges for the missing cats whose bodies have not been found… the latter, in the absence of the bodies feels that charges of animal cruelty cannot be demonstrated.

Reader’s comment: “Please let me buy this person a beer and tapas, before walking him to a warmer place then Spain. Whatever the reason for him to feel the need to kill, he really is taking up unnecessary oxygen and space. Unlike the murder of said cats, a quick end would stop his misery” – Patrick Barry Storey
