MSF Merdeka Race returns to Sepang with ninth edition, 111-lap endurance event, racing cars and motorcycles

The Malaysia Speed Festival (MSF) Merdeka Race returns to the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit this Merdeka weekend, with more than 200 racing machines and 300 competitors expected for the ninth consecutive edition. Taking place from August 29 to 30, the 2026 MSF Merdeka Race will feature both four- and two-wheel competition, headlined by the 111-lap MSF SuperTurismo Merdeka 111 Endurance for cars and the MotoMSF Superbikes Merdeka 33 Endurance.

The 111-lap car endurance race will cover approximately 615 km around Sepang’s 5.534 km circuit. The race starts at 5:30pm on Sunday, August 30, with competitors expected to finish just before midnight as Malaysia celebrates its 69th Merdeka Day. Teams competing in the 111-lap endurance event must field at least two drivers per car and complete a minimum of two compulsory three-minute pitstops. Driver stints are otherwise unrestricted, allowing teams to develop their own strategies around fuel, tyres, driver changes and pitstop timing.

The race is divided into seven classes – Super Series Limited, EXN GT86 x BRZ Racing Cup, Super Compatto, Standard Production, Standard Production MAX, Super Production and K-Series Battle. Two-wheel racing will take place on Sunday, with the MotoMSF Superbikes Merdeka 33 Endurance held on Sepang’s South Track. The 33-lap race covers almost 183 km, with a two-rider team sharing riding duties throughout the endurance event.|

Compulsory pitstops are required every eight laps, adding another strategic element to a race that will test the physical endurance of riders competing in full racing leathers in Malaysia’s heat. The superbike endurance race runs from 11:30am to 2:00pm, while the morning programme also includes the seven-lap American V-Twin Cup by Prodigy Racecraft, featuring Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

The weekend gets underway on Saturday night, with three sprint races scheduled between 9:00pm and 11:35pm. These comprise two five-lap Super Unlimited races and an eight-lap Skilldrvn One Make Race Series event. Four-wheel racing resumes on Sunday afternoon with a 10-lap Skilldrvn One Make Race Series race at 2:15pm, followed by the Merdeka 75 Cup at 3:00pm. The 75-minute endurance race features four classes – Saga Cup, MyVi Cup, CamPro Cup and Tuner Production.

Defending the overall MSF Merdeka Race title will be veteran racer Faidzil Alang, who returns alongside Mohamed Hafez. They will face competition from local racers as well as entrants from Thailand, Indonesia and Hong Kong. “The Merdeka race has grown tremendously over the years, and being able to put together the annual 111 laps endurance is a significant milestone for MSF,” said MSF principal Adian Yein Khalid.

He added that the event brings together veteran racers, newcomers, established teams and competitors from across the region, making it a test of speed, consistency, strategy and teamwork. For spectators, paddock passes are priced at RM45 and provide access to the event from 10:00am to 11:00pm. Children below 12 years old enter free.

The MSF Merdeka Race is organised by Kelab Sukan Motor MSF Malaysia, which is registered with the Malaysian Sports Commission and is an affiliate member of the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM).
