Madrid Heatwave Fire

Huge flames have torn through an industrial building full of swimming pool parts and chlorine and burst through the roof as firefighters battled to stop the blaze from spreading last night.

The footage was obtained from the Madrid emergency services on 22nd June and shows the incident in the municipality of  San Fernando de Henares, outside the capital.

The clip shows firefighters battling the massive blaze at night as it rips through the building.

According to 112 Comunidad de Madrid, the emergency services, the fire involved a warehouse used to store swimming pool supplies and replacement parts, as well as chlorine.

The organisation said in a statement: “Industrial fire in a pool parts warehouse in San Fernando de Henares, Avenida de Castilla. A widespread fire broke through the roof. All types of pool products, including chlorine, have burned.

“Fourteen units from the Community of Madrid Fire Brigade worked to prevent the spread to nearby warehouses. No people have been affected. The fire is in the control phase. SUMMA 112, the Civil Guard and Local Police also intervened.”

According to reports, the blaze began at about 11:30 pm on Sunday at a building measuring around 4,800 square metres.

Reports said chlorine, plumbing components and other pool-related products were stored inside.

According to emergency officials, firefighters prevented the flames from reaching neighbouring industrial units and kept the incident confined to the affected site.

Reports said the fire had been brought under control by about 3:30 am, while four crews remained to complete extinguishing operations and cooling work.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown however the ongoing heatwave as temperatures in the region hover at the 40 degree mark is thought to be a contributing factor.

The heatwave is expected to last until midweek when temperatures will drop slighty to the early-mid 30s.
