While the season eight reunion of Love Is Blind, which was released on March, 9, 2025, was full of announcements and shocking revelations, one may have superseded the rest: Amber Desiree “AD” Smith and Ollie Sutherland, both previous cast members of the show, announced their engagement. The duo met while filming season three of Perfect Match, another Netflix dating series, which is scheduled to premiere this summer. And while they hadn’t previously confirmed their partnership, they were spotted having dinner together in October 2024, sparking rumors that they had coupled up.
During the reunion episode, Nick and Vanessa Lachey announced the arrival of the duo, who appeared to promote Perfect Match, before introducing a video in which the pair pushes viewers to tune into the newest season later this year. However, the clip quickly takes a turn when Sutherland suddenly leads Smith down the beach to a romantic set-up that includes pillar candles and hundreds of white flowers.
“This is so pretty,” Smith exclaims in the video, expressing disbelief over the display in front of her. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” he asks in response. Seconds later, he drops to one knee. “You’re my best friend,” he says. “You’re the love of my life. I’ve never felt as happy or as complete as I have since I met you, and nothing would make me happier than to spend the rest of my life loving you. Amber Desiree Smith, will you marry me?” Smith, covering her mouth with her hands, squeals then immediately nods.
After the cameras cut back to the studio, Sutherland admits he had been planning the proposal for months. When asked by Vanessa if their time on Love Is Blind helped prepare them for their partnership, Sutherland says it did. “I think even as early on as when we were on Perfect Match, I noticed that we were having the deeper conversations, the more important conversations, talking about shared values and similar outlooks on life,” he says. “I think that really laid the groundwork and the foundation for the beautiful relationship we have now, and I definitely attribute a lot of that to our experience on Love Is Blind.” Smith adds that they tried to have very intentional conversations throughout their relationship, detailing the FaceTime dates they had while on opposite sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
Smith originally appeared on season six of Love Is Blind, in which she got engaged to Clay Gravesande. However, on the day of their nuptials, he turned her down at the altar. On that season’s reunion, Smith reflected on the moment: “I don’t regret saying yes to him,” she said. “My love is blind. There’s nothing that he could’ve shown me, told me, that would’ve changed my answer.” Sutherland was on season one of the UK version of the series, eventually proposing to fellow cast member Demi Brown after connecting in the pods. While that duo also made it to the day of their nuptials, Brown ultimately said “no” when the time came to them to decide whether or not they wanted to wed.
