Ford is recalling several Transit, Transit Custom and Tourneo vehicles due to a defect with their transmission.
“Due to a manufacturing issue, vehicles with 8F57 transmission may contain an Electronic One-Way Clutch Assembly built with an unseated snap ring,” the company says in its recall notice.
“This may cause an unexpected loss of first and/or reverse gear resulting in a sudden loss of forward or reverse movement of the vehicle.
“A sudden loss of forward or reverse movement of the vehicle while driving could increase the risk of serious injury or death to occupants and other road users.”
The 8F57 is the eight-speed automatic transmission used in all Transit Custom and Tourneo models in Australia, as well as front-wheel drive Transit variants.
