2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift Malaysian launch end-May? W223 gains MBUX Superscreen and more

The image above you’ll find on Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s Facebook page. Ahead of that lovely W108 (the immediate predecessor of the W116, the first model to officially be called the S-Class) is, unmistakably, the 2026 W223 Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift, which revealed itself to the world at the start of the year. Launching in Malaysia end-May, then?

You can read the full karangan here to learn what’s new; what we’re thinking about is which powertrain we’ll get. There’s currently only one regular S-Class variant (non-Maybach and non-AMG, we mean) on sale in Malaysia – the RM739k S580e PHEV – and we expect this to continue for our market.

The facelifted S580e’s engine and electric motor are now both more powerful. The ICE (now dubbed M256 Evo), while still a 3.0 litre turbo straight-six, now develops 381 PS and 560 Nm of torque (versus 367 PS/500 Nm before), while the electric motor now gives you 163 PS (previously 150 PS), although torque should still be 440 Nm. The combined total is now 585 PS and 750 Nm of torque (previously 510 PS/750 Nm).

A particulate filter and pressurised fuel tank are now standard globally, while the 28.6 kWh battery and 100 km EV-only range should be unchanged. We can probably safely rule out the diesels, but how possible is it that MBM surprises us with any of the following petrol/PHEV variants as well: S450, S500 or S450e?
