Uzbekistan reviews progress on Andijan International Airport modernization

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, April 15. President of
Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Andijan International
Airport, which is undergoing a large-scale modernization as part of
the national transport infrastructure development program, Trend reports, citing the
Uzbek president’s office.

Originally constructed in 1978, the airport no longer met modern
standards. The outdated runway, lack of essential lighting systems,
and other key infrastructure significantly limited flight
operations.

During the first phase of reconstruction, a new runway (3,300 m
x 60 m), a taxiway, and aircraft parking areas have been built. The
airport’s drainage system has also been upgraded. Modern equipment
meeting ICAO CAT-II standards is currently being installed,
including radar and meteorological systems.

Upon completion, the airport will be capable of accommodating
large airliners, including night flights and operations in
challenging weather conditions. Its capacity is expected to
increase tenfold.

The second phase of the project involves the construction of a
new passenger terminal. The terminal’s throughput is set to rise
from 300 to 1,000 passengers per hour, with annual flight numbers
increasing from 584 to 3,700.

The president instructed officials to establish effective
airport management, expand the flight network, and improve the
accessibility of air services both domestically and
internationally.

The modernization of Andijan Airport is part of a nationwide
initiative. In recent years, airports in Samarkand, Termez,
Urgench, Shakhrisabz, Muynak, Kokand, and Zaamin have also been
renovated. Reconstruction continues across other regions of the
country.
