Bragg Farm Sugarhouse, 1005 VT-14N, East Montpelier VT
Palmer Lane Maple, 19 Old Pump Rd, Jericho VT
Canteen Creemee, 5123 Main St, Waitsfield VT
Village Creemee Stand, 41 West St, Bristol VT
Vermont Maple Outlet, 3929 VT-15, Jeffersonville VT
Turn left from the rally onto Pearl St (which is also VT-15), then bear slightly left at the crazy five-way intersection to remain on Hwy 15. Continue about seven miles to the town of Jericho. Palmer Lane Maple will be on your left. When you’ve finished your first maple creemee continue north on 15 to the town of Jeffersonville. (If that first creemee didn’t hit the spot the Vermont Maple Outlet just shy of Jeffersonville also has great creemees.) As you pull up to Jeffersonville turn right on VT-108 and ride seventeen miles over the extremely twisty Smugglers’ Notch to the town of Stowe. The Notch is best ridden early on weekday mornings as tourist traffic can get hazardous later and on weekends. Continue on 108 to the center of town, then turn left on VT-100.
As you reach Morrisville turn right at the first traffic light and pass through the old business district to catch VT-12. Stay on 12 about twenty-five miles to the capitol city of Montpelier. At a four-way stop turn left, then take the second exit of a small roundabout to Main St which shortly will be renamed County Road. Morse Farm Sugarworks will be on your right nearly to the top of an incline. Check out their static sugaring display and stretch your legs with a walk through the sugarbush.
NOTE: Bragg Farm is another excellent venue for those seeking a top quality creemee. I left it out as Bragg and Morse are very similar and very close to each other. I chose Morse because that section of VT-12 is more scenic and fun to ride than VT-14 where Bragg is located, and Morse is situated in a maple forest where Bragg is a bare hillside.
Backtrack to the roundabout taking the second exit to VT-12 South passing through downtown Montpelier. Turn right at the first traffic light, ride past the state Capitol, then continue on US-2 (paralleling I-89) to VT-100B in Middlesex. (If you’re determined to overdose on sugar detour to Red Hen Bakery a hundred yards past your turn for another excellent creemee.) 100B is a series of scenic sweepers that will take you through the tiny town of Moretown, then merges with VT-100 and continues to Waitsfield.
In Waitsfield you’ll find Canteen Creemee Company, another highly rated creamery. On the far side of town turn right onto VT-17 which takes you over the very technical Appalachian Gap to the town of Bristol where you’ll find the Village Creemee Stand. By this point you’ll have gained twenty pounds and feel sluggish, so get on VT-116 and ride it through some very pretty hillside farms back to the greater Burlington area and the rally grounds.
