No One Is Wearing Winter Coats Like Harry Styles and Zoë Kravitz

We’ve wondered it before and we’ll wonder it again: Was the coupling of Harry Styles and Zoë Kravitz concocted in a lab in order to sell clothing? Well, if so, it’s still working.

Over the few months’ courtship between the British pop star and his Hollywood-royalty lady, at least one fact has become abundantly clear: The two share exquisite taste in outerwear. Earlier this month, the duo hit the cobblestone streets of Rome, holding hands and donning crisp jackets from The Row to an enviably cozy effect. Now, as we near the zenith of the holiday season, so too has their shared wardrobe synergy. This harmony was on full display over the weekend in the Eternal City, where the two were once again spotted in exceptional outerwear, this time with a familiar plus-one.

On their stroll, Styles wore a wooly gray Lemaire bathrobe coat topped with a pair of raver-ish, cream-colored oversized sunnies, his beloved white Vans, and his hair styled into a slight fauxhawk. Kravitz went for a more eclectic look, wearing the sort of fur-shawl coat one might see as part of a Penny Lane costume, oval-shaped eyewear, and a pair of dangly pearl earrings. The slightly muted, earthy palette the two have come to enjoy was disrupted by the casually florid company of one Alessandro Michele, the creative director of Valentino, who perhaps has never been spotted in a truly understated outfit. The designer demonstrated his layering dexterity with a boyish pink and red striped shirt, an orange and green windowpane plaid coat (lapels chaotically folded every which way), a tiny lilac scarf, and his hair plaited into two sweet braids.

As Styles continues to undergo a personal-style shift—transitioning away from the bedazzled unitards and painted nails of the late-twentyteens, and toward pieces that resonate with today’s more prep-forward sensibility—it makes sense that he’s still hanging with Michele, one of his longtime collaborators. Styles’s first major image pivot occurred under the tutelage of his stylist Harry Lambert and Michele, back when he was revolutionizing Gucci. When the designer and the former One Direction member attended the Met Gala together in 2019, Styles made headlines for the bold femininity of his red carpet look: a chiffon-like blouse, heeled loafers, multi-colored nails, and a dangly pearl earring, just like the ones Kravitz was photographed wearing in this recent sartorial ménage à trois. When Alessandro debuted at Valentino last year, Styles sat in the front row; the two also both own the same “Techno Is My Boyfriend” hat.

Harper’s Bazaar reported that Michele met up with Kravitz and Styles to tour them through the Valentino flagship store in Rome. Other outlets speculated whether the two lovebirds had recently gotten engaged. (Given the amount of jewelry Kravitz tends to wear, it’s totally plausible that she was just hyper-accessorizing.) Regardless of what brought them together, the triad looked like a Brooklyn family of three on vacation: chic art-world parents flanking an imaginative, self-dressed child on a Roman holiday.
