While Luke Bryan wasn’t planning to watch his fellow American Idol judge’s space flight, he couldn’t help himself.
During the Tuesday, April 15 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the country star shared how he ended up watching Blue Origin’s NS-31 launch and his reaction to seeing Katy Perry travel with an all-female crew, which included journalist Gayle King, philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut and bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.
“I was doing my morning walk around the farm, which turns into checking Instagram and stuff,” Bryan, 48, told host Jimmy Kimmel. “I saw where she was posting on her Instagram that it was happening at 8:30 Central and totally got roped into the moment.”

He then decided to tune into the livestream.
“They’re in the Rivian, they’re heading to the capsule, and I’m sitting there walking and it roped me in,” he said. “Because when you have a friend — I mean, let’s face it — it could blow up. So I wanted it to not do that.”
When Kimmel, 57, asked Bryan if he’d take cues from Perry, 40, and travel to space, he replied, “I probably would do it just because — I mean, you gotta take that chance.”
However, the talk show host disagreed.
“No, you don’t,” he said. “You don’t have to take that chance.”
Ultimately, the “Buy Dirt” musician said the decision would be “a delicate negotiation” with his family, noting that they would likely give him “a resounding no.”
The pair then dreamed up a few space-themed country songs called “Chicken Jockey” and “Bass Fisherman in Space.”

On Tuesday, April 15, PEOPLE reported that Perry’s Blue Origin flight which took place in a New Shepard rocket that blasted off in Texas, lasted about 10 minutes.
In the hours following the journey, the “I Kissed a Girl” hitmaker shared video on Instagram from inside the spacecraft, showing herself floating upside down alongside her fellow female crew members.
“One day when you’re older, will YOU still look up in wonder?” Perry captioned the post, as she reflected on the expedition. “Still processing this incredible journey ✨.”
