Lola Young Shares Video of Herself ‘Gagging and Throwing Up’ at Coachella

Coachella was a challenge for Lola Young.

The “Messy” singer gave her debut performance at the Indio, California music festival on April 11 and weathered a nerve-induced stomach illness throughout her set, joking about the experience in a video shared to Instagram afterward.

“Not me doing my first Coachella & gagging & throwing up all the way through the set,” wrote Young, 24, adding a trigger warning for “sickness” in text displayed on screen.

“It was getting real bad here guys,” she captioned a clip of herself retching while performing a song.

“Can I get a bucket please?” wrote Young alongside herself exiting the stage to throw up.

However, she quickly returned. “And I’m back [and] twerking my way through the sickness,” said the British singer-songwriter, adding, “That wouldn’t have been cute if I threw up.”

The “Conceited” artist got candid about the performance in the Instagram post’s caption, writing, “i was nervous guys and it was 40 bloody degrees [Celsius].”

Young returned to the festival for its second weekend — and she seemed to have a much easier time making it through her April 18 set. “well that was incredible @coachella no other words tbh.. other than ty for having me and i love u all,” she wrote on Instagram.

In another post on the platform, she shared photos from the second performance alongside the caption, “This felt so special, guys thank you for everyone that showed up n gave me the time of my life, I love life rn.”

She took to Instagram once again on April 20 to tease an upcoming release, writing, “new single soon.. but theres one thinggg i gotta do….”

Young’s Coachella performance arrives following the rise of her breakthrough hit “Messy,” which went viral on TikTok and eventually reached No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S.

The track appears on her album This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway, released in June 2024. She’s scheduled to perform at various festivals and venues in the U.S. and Europe through September.
