If BINI were told they would dominate the local charts, the members would’ve thought it was impossible. At least, they felt that before they were named the country’s top local artist in 2024 by the newly launched The Official Philippines Charts.

BINI was named the top local artist of 2024 by The Official Philippines Chart, reflecting the evolving OPM scene based on major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and YouTube.

The female octet — consisting of Jhoanna, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, and Sheena — was recognized for their chart-topping tracks and significant rise in the previous year.

Their songs “Salamin, Salamin” and “Pantropiko” also took the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, in the Top 10 Local Songs of the Year list.

Despite their success, Sheena admitted that she thought BINI’s success was an unattainable feat back then.

“Siyempre, sobrang laking impact ng pagiging top local artist. Grateful kami, if you’re going to ask us about BINI’s reign and all the awards, parang imposible,” she said when asked how she defines success. The group’s main dancer and youngest member was smiling as she entertained questions from reporters on the red carpet with her bandmates during the music chart’s launch party in Taguig. “Now that we’re here, we’re so grateful and nakakainfluence kami [ng mga tao].”

(Of course, being the top local artist has a huge impact on us. We’re grateful. If you’re going to ask us about BINI’s reign and all the awards, it seems impossible. Now that we’re here, we’re so grateful that we can influence people.)

Meanwhile, BINI’s leader Jhoanna is happy to see OPM “thriving” with many artists making waves with their music, hosting sold-out performances, and carving their own paths.

Despite the growing number of artists succeeding, she said the group doesn’t give in to the pressure as they make it a point to focus on releasing music from the heart.

“Hindi mawawala ang pressure pero kami as a group, kapag nag-release ka ng song, dapat hindi ka lang mag-focus sa charts or kung ita-top mo sila. You just release music from your heart, and it will resonate,” she said, hoping the group will have more songs and collaborations in the future, as well as penetrate the international stage.

(The pressure is there. But when we release a song as a group, we don’t focus on topping the charts. We just release music from your heart, and it will resonate.)

BINI’s award came days after their three-day sold-out “BINIverse” world tour kickoff at the Philippine Arena. They will also visit Dubai, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.

They also released their second EP “BINIverse” last February 27 which contains the tracks “Blink Twice,” “Zero Pressure,” “Secrets (featuring eaJ),” “Out Of My Head,” “Cherry on Top,” and “Cherry On Top (BiniMo remix featuring Agnez Mo).”

According to PRM board member and Sony Music Philippines general manager Roslyn Pineda, The Official Philippines Charts emphasizes the use of charting as a “powerful tool to inspire and inform” artists and industry professionals.

“Numbers don’t lie. They tell a story, a narrative that reflects the hard work, dedication, and passion that our artists pour into their craft every single day,” she said of the weekly music chart.

“We now have a clear picture of who is resonating with our audiences, breaking barriers, and who is truly making waves in the music scene. This data is critical; it provides insights that can help us understand the ever-evolving landscape of our industry.”
